encapsulated to-do list to begin modding

easy:
1) remove the speed limiter (wire #53)
2) do diagnostics
3) reset the ECU
4) clean out all intake pipes etc
5) re-gap plugs to 0.8mm

middle:
1) change all filters and fluids, use semi-synth oil
2) pop charger
3) install a bleed valve to raise boost to 10psi (more on R32)

money:
1) hi-flow exhaust
2) cat replacement
3) CAI
4) water spray on intercooler
5) FMIC or chargecooler
6) tranny cooler

more ideas for modding:

these will cost some money:

-ebc (boost controller)
-powerfc: gets rid of the stock ecu limits, and you can tune it nonstop
- fmic
-beefed up sway bars/ bushings
-brake pads
-ECU upgrade (pfc/jwt/etc)
-cam gears

You forgot the obvious. Have a fat wallet and save your pennies. :D

mario, yes. thatzz the name of the game, baby.

bonzelite 05-13-2005 11:16 PM

and let us not forget a groundwire kit. i thought they were bull**** until i got one. it actually does work. it 'brightens up' the idle a bit, lessening electrical resistance enough to smooth out the engine and acceleration. it is not overwhelming, mind you, but it is there.

bonzelite 05-14-2005 12:34 AM

of course, actually, the most important thing is tires. we often overlook that and want to go right to forged pistons and hybrid turbos.

i recommend the BFG KDW series and/or Michelin Pilots. many people have their favorites, and so far, those are mine. the Pilots wear out soon, however, but they are extremely grippy. i have taken crazy risks in corners, only to be taken care of by the Pilots. they pull me through every time.

One mod that is often overlooked is Brakes. Atleast upgrade the brake pads on your gtr.

Another thing to note is that before you start any modifications, make sure that all maintenance is done, and that the car is in as new running condition

bonzelite 09-18-2005 03:58 PM

-relocate battery to trunk.

-re-route CAI to inner fender to isolate it from engine heat.

-oil cooler.

-rear diff cooler.

-cup holder.

hmmm

Ok, I posted this in the wrong section, so I moved it. This is where it belongs....

Ok, now i've read that article before, and I've heard some rumors. I wonder if anyone on here can put them to rest. I've heard that Motorex is no longer importing skylines until they have gotten rid of their overstock. True or False? I have also heard that motorex will not import any more skylines into the US, period. True or False? Now, I haven't heard much about RB Motoring. I do know that I haven't been able to get any email response from either company concerning their skyline importation. No, I haven't called them b/c I am not going to be close to being able to even afford a skyline until mid-late '06 at the earliest. I'm just trying to do my homework. If anyone has any feed back, drop me a line please. I would like to know about how long it took from start up to delivery. Also, were there any snags I should be made aware of? The other question I have about the skyline is, what are insurance premiums like? I know the car get's labeled as 'grey market' or 'exotic', I was just wondering what a ballpark figure in price difference might be. :smilie_th

i think your (above) post #9 may still be in the wrong section. it has nothing to do with modding the car.

insofar as importing a skyline, if you have $$$, you can have anything arranged, regardless of all of the rumors and rules. the reason why RB motoring is not responding to you is because you probably had nothing to offer them. they have a couple dozen skylines in their warehouse sitting there; most of them are r32s. you make them an offer, they will probably reply. if you want an answer, catch them at the next D1GP. they always have a booth at those events. same as MotoRex.

and as far as i know, per an RB Motoring employee, there is currently a freeze on all future importation of skylines into the US. apparently, a red flag was raised due to some "unorthodox" means of importation via MotoRex, ie, they were "caught" even though they have the only real means to officially certify those cars. it had to do with maximizing profits by avoiding import laws. this is one of the current "rumors" about MotoRex. but the cars that remain here are all for sale, as long as you do not present yourself as merely curious.

as i said, if you have solid cash, sniff around, make some acquaintances, you can get a skyline. no matter what. believe me. money talks. it walks over all barriers. you visit RB Motoring's booth at a race, tell them you're serious, you are not only curious, you have cash money to move right now, arrange a meeting, and you can have one. with enough money, the seas will part for you. that is your "homework."

i see you live in New Jersey. well, being that you have the solid cash, and the desire, then flying to Los Angeles for the next US D1GP points event should not be a problem for you. figure the trip expense into the cost of the skyline. they hold it at Irwindale Speedway. see you there at the booth!

So is this a to do list on the upcoming GT-R?? I'm new to the forum, so bear with me! ;)

bonzelite 07-08-2006 11:37 PM

mmm. not really.

it's for any car you've got that's older and needs some more "pep." the newest GTR to come will be self-contained. yes, it will be modded by others, by tuner shops, certainly. but the new GTR will be on the level of a Porsche 997. and very few owners of those cars "mod" them much. they don't really need to :smilie_th

2008NissanGTR 06-28-2007 11:24 AM

I'm sure with an intake, exhaust, and ECU tune you can raise the boost and get some great hp gains with the new GT-R.

bonzelite 06-28-2007 11:36 AM

^^^yes absolutely. all modification techniques and gains of the past still apply. and it will void the warranty.

if you don't hold that important, then sure. you can do as you suggest. simply remapping the ECU and raising the boost alone will add a good bit.

Mine will go directly to AMS performace ( supporting vendor ) and we will begin to showcase mods one at a time and and what benfits and hp gains etc we get out of them so the GT-R will be a on going project car...and I beleive a very fast one.:D

Are we racing for pinkslips?? LOL

Hope you got a BIG MOTOR on that three wheeler!!

Bexa20 12-30-2007 09:37 PM

I'm curious by how much the prices will be jacked up comparing to the other manufacturers. I guess we will find out in about 1-2 years. :)

Brakes? They come with 15 inch vented rotors all the way around! Maybe a high temp race pad will help.

I like where your head is at! Nothing like cold air for that intake. I doubt the magazines will cover it, but doesn't the car already have an oil and diff cooler?

Hi, new to the site.

I'm gonna be buying a 2010 GT-R from a guy used, 890 miles. Its bone stock. Is there a company that mods these cars or is all do-it-yourself stuff?

I don't care about voiding my warranty and I'd like to know what kind of HP people have been increasing these to without killing the reliability. Is 600-700 HP possible?

Raising boost to 10psi...what does that yield for HP?

Thanks.

Redspeed 01-26-2010 06:45 AM

Maybe a better question is, does anyone know of any GTR forums/sites where people know ALOT about these new GTR's when it comes to medium-heavy modding.....
