generations of GTRs
i realized today that i have been referring to the new GTR as the "11th gen." and that is incorrect.
yes, we are on the 11th gen Skyline but not GTR. the GTR is only on it's 3rd generation.
we have:
first generation:
first GTR, the PGC10
2nd, KPGC10
3rd, KPGC110
-----------------------
second generation:
4th, BNR32
5th, BCNR33
6th, BNR34
7th, GTR Proto (code yet to be ascertained)

Nismo Edition R32 GTR
1990.02 : Nissan announced the release of the limited edition Skyline GT-R Nismo with the purpose of participating in the JTC Group A (Japan Touringcar Championship ). Engine durability and reliability have been improved by adopting the metal TO4B turbine instead of the ceramic TO3 turbine. The Skyline GT-R Nismo is equipped with a front bumper with air intake, a grille top mold, a small rear spoiler under its stock rear spoiler, and Nismo stickers. ABS, air conditioner, audio, and rear wiper have been removed to reduce weight.
specs:
upgrdted turbos: T25/T04B vs. T25/T3
40-60kilos lighter then standard
short shifter
no ABS
Nismo kit/rear wing
heavy duty clutch
tuned length turbo back exhaust
grounding Kit
height adjustable suspension
cross-drilled rear brakes
factory fitted 320km/h NISMO speedo
Nismo gear ****
rear Nismo badge
upgraded radiator

R32 GTR headlamp types
there are 3 types of headlights for the R32 GTR; they are as follows:
N1= N1 spec GTRs
projector "bugeye" 1- came in older model R32s
projector "bugeye" 2- came in newer model R32s
bug type older model takes an H3C bulb
newer model r32's take H1/H4 bulbs
below is a pic of N1 type, non-projector, headlamps:

Nismo S and R-Tune
what do these Nismo (Nissan Motorsports International) designations mean?
S-tune = "Street" --parts are backed by Nissan's Parts and Accessory Warranty. includes: stainless steel cat-back exhaust system, lightweight forged alloy wheels, cast alloy wheels, shift *****, sway bars, shock and spring kits, floor mats and license plate frames.
R-tune = "Race" --maximum performance intended for off-highway use only. includes: headers, camshafts, cold-air intakes, brake pads, lightweight flywheels, power steering oil cooler kits, clutch discs and clutch covers, limited-slip differentials, front strut tower bars, lower tie bars, rear stabilizer bars and bushing kits.

Z-Tune
"Z" was allegedly chosen as a symbolic last letter of the alphabet applied to the last of the R34 GTRs officially sold by Nismo --a grand way to end the lineage of the Skyline GTR 34, and to mark an end of a generation and era.

purpose of high revving engines
GT and particularly F1 cars can rev extremely high, even though they may not have as much torque as one would be lead to believe. however, the rate at which they produce this torque is astronomical, as an F1 car may have well into 900HP (remember from pages back that horsepower is the rate at which torque can be delivered).
this allows the race car to dial in the power band over a far greater range than a street setup. because the F1 car's revs do not drop so dramatically when letting off the throttle (compared to a street car), the F1 car is able to remain in the "sweet spot" of it's powerband, maintaining earth-shattering speeds, far easier. and thus is revealed the entire purpose behind high revving engines.
you could say, for sake of rough analogy, that the "sampling rate" of the rev band on an F1 car is a 64bit, whilst the sampling rate of the rev band of a street car is more like 16bit

N1 legends and lore
N1 is the limited Group N homologation spec issue GTR (with requisite upgraded N1 engine). here are some rambling factoids that i've managed to glean during my own GTR RB26 quest. i will add more as i close gaps in the information. so enjoy for now:
-- the N1 R32GTR is not only available in white. that is false. it is made in gunmetal grey. white, i cannot (yet) confirm. note that the R32 N1 is a variant of the V Spec and V Spec II. the NISMO GTR predates the N1 and does not include the N1 spec engine. there is a gap in my information about R32GTR N1 factory oil cooler(?) and head/cam timing mods (??)
-- the V Spec N1 R33GTR is only available in white. as well, the R33GTR N1 is a variant of the V Spec. it is confirmed that the R33GTR V Spec N1 has different heads/cams. also, the R33 N1 comes with a factory oil cooler.
-- the 2.8L RB is for the R33 400R only --not available for any N1 spec GTR-- the 2.8L is the RB-X GT2. this is one of the rarest RB variants.
-- only the R34GTR comes with a factory aluminum bonnett. this is standard OEM for all R34s. the V Spec II R34GTR comes with a carbon fibre bonnett.
-- it is confirmed, as well, that the R34GTR N1 block has different exhaust manifolds than the standard RB26DETT. i cannot (yet) confirm this for all N1 variants.
-- bore is same on N1 RB26 as stock RB26: 86mm. only the RB-X GT2 (in R33 400R) has larger bore of 87mm. but stroke is much longer on RB-X (87mm bore X 77.7mm stroke {stock is 73.7mm}).
