moleman 05-29-2005 04:22 AM

Try here mate. Ben has times and all the 'Ring info you will ever need. I think the fastest ever was around 6'10" .....ish. Porsche 956. Knowing me, I'm probably wrong though.

The production car lap record is now down to around 7mins 30 I believe.

Times have dropped a lot in the last few years. EVO magazine did an article a couple of years ago featuring the crop of cars that had gone sub eight minutes. If I remember correctly they were R33 GT-R, Jaguar XJ220, Caterham R500, Audi RS4 and a 911 - can't remember which one.

Since then times have been demolished by the new breed of hypercars.

There is also much speculation about the state of tune of the GT-R. It definately was not a stock car.

By the way - I was there last week and did around 9:30 in my 500bhp R33 GT-R

mtbjoe 06-01-2005 05:25 AM

the r33 once held the record for the ring and i know in testing for the r34 it was almost 20seconds faster than the r33 round the ring

moleman 06-01-2005 01:51 PM

The R33 GT-R was the first production to go sub eight minutes. Driven by Dirk Schoysman during testing. BUT, it was NOT a standard car. There are all sorts of rumours about the power/mods it was running, eg: boost etc. Probably nearer a stage one car.

The R34 was timed at 7:42 I believe. But again - was it stock?

bonzelite 06-03-2005 12:33 AM

over the years, many changes have been made to the course: there is "nordschleife," "nordschleife + old south," "nordschleife + new south loop/GP track."

Clay Regazzoni did a race lap in the 1975 GP of 7:06.4. Nicki Lauda did a practice/qualifying lap of 6:59-ish(22.8km).

Stefan Bellof or Derek Bell did a race lap in the 1983 1000km of 6:25.91 in a Porsche 956 (22.8 km).

in 2004's 24-hr race, an Opel Astra V8 Coupe did a race lap of 8:26.742 (nordschliefe + "sprint section"/24.358km).

"After Sao Paulo, the Nurburgring is the highest track above sea level, and the thinner air generates a performance loss, so the stress on the engine is automatically reduced. The maximum speed is around 310 kmh and this is reached either at the end of the pit straight or before the NGK chicane, depending on wind direction."

LAPTIMES - Nordschleife:
7:59 --- Nissan Skyline GT-R R34 ( date?) --(considered unofficial; believed to be modified from stock )

Some good info there mate.

That time was for the R33 GT-R though not the R34.

The Porsche 956 lap was Stefan Bellof not Derek Bell. There is a video available in the UK with in-car laps of the Nordschleife and Le Mans along with several other tracks from the 1983/4 GT Championship - All with Derek Bell driving. Awesome stuff. It says on that vid that the 956s were timed at 246mph down the Mulsanne straight at Le Mans!!!

bonzelite 06-03-2005 04:53 PM

moleman, thank you. you are correct about the R33:

7:59 --- Nissan Skyline GT-R R33 in year 1995. however it was later discovered that the speed limiter was disabled, the boost was turned up, and the suspension and ATTESA were modified. so it wasn't stock.

the R34 ran Nurburgring at 7:52, seven seconds quicker than the best R33. but i still don't know the year.

this stuff is a bit confusing!
