It is a different process (More coats) and the only color that is hand-polished between coats. I do believe that it a better quality paint job than the other GT-R colors, based on my review of the GT-R website.

Look at the my posted attachments (From the gtrnissan website). I think the premium is due solely to the additional mfg inputs and additional labor for the hand-polishing/buffing.

I can't speak to quality compared to other vehicles.

My bigger concern is that if touch-up/repair was ever needed can the process be accurately matched (specifically the color coats being suspended between clear coats.) That concern is why my GT-R (ETA of 07/08 per NPipeline) is Gun Metallic.
