Forex is another option I'm exploring just because the consistent political changes each country has been facing lately. Have you tried investing in forex?

I picked up a book about it:

"Getting Started in Currency Trading"

It's not a bad book and is great to learn the basics.

I will be reading it soon. I just ordered it from amazon for $13.57 and should have it shortly "free shipping is great".

Thanks,

Phoenix, My problem with Cd's is the fact that they are taxed as regular income and it bumps me up to a different tax bracket with the gains. I have 2 Cd's this quarter maturing one that was 6.00% APY and the other @ 5.88% APY. I made enough just on Cd's and investing to have to pay more taxes to the government last year which was a little frustrating.

I hope that we are out of the "R" word by the end of the 4th quarter but I agree that that may be a little too optimistic for now.

FYI:
remember, in the USA, after you cross ~$128,000 you jump to a higher tax bracket, but you are taxed at the lower rate for < 128,--- and you are taxed at the higher rate > 128,---. it doesn't tax all of your money earned at the higher rate.
