"So, AutoExpress releases information today that says that the new GT-R will come in at ?29,000... in Japan. We're not sure how that's going to equate in U.S. dollars (or yen, for that matter), but what was even more interesting was that they divulged the varying levels of trim that will be offered when the GT-R goes on sale next year.

The "entry-level" version will come equipped with a six-speed manual gearbox, four piston Brembos and the aforementioned ?29,000 price tag. The next step up would be the ?35,000 V-spec version, that gets a seven-speed DSG and six-piston stoppers, while the top o' the line Evolution package will get everything included in the V-spec, but will also come with lots of carbon fiber pieces to reduce weight. The GT-R Evolution will likely be priced over ?50,000.

Again, we have no idea where these figures and trim levels came from, as AutoExpress only says that "sources" provided in the information. Whatev, we're still salivating."

Original ?50,000 was off... so expect top of the line to come in around $102,138...



From what I gather power output seems the same... but $30K in Carbon Fiber is a fawk of a lot of Carbon Fiber...

I say B.S...

No car company introduces such a huge spread of models the first year. No way, no how.

It would be marketing suicide. Any first year marketing student will tell you, that they will introduce a base model the first year that will hopefully be a new performance benchmark and technological "tour de force" at their price point. Then as the bugs are worked out and intrest fades slightly they will add a performance or trim level to increase interest again in the second or third model year.

Then possibly in the third or fourth model year they introduce a new "halo" version, to boost sagging sales and waning interest. It could come sooner if there is a new competitor that emerges, although not likely.

For good examples, see the Corvette and ZO6 or Mustang and Cobra examples.

I agree with HellBent above. I believe there will only be one fairly decked out model the first year, with a handful of options such as transmission type, nav, and other little stuff to satisfy the individualist. Later maybe such things as special editions or Nismo tuner levels. They will want to keep the car in a relatively narrow range pricewise for introduction.

By the way, after listening to the car pass the camera and microphone on several of the roadcourses, especially when in front of the car coming at you, do you think it could be a small displacement V-8 twin turbo? Possibly loosely based on one of their 4+ liter displacement engines? The car had an awfully deep throaty resonance for even a large six cylinder in some of the clips I reviewed. Also, notice that even the G37 coupe has an all wheel steer option and it putting out good HP numbers even with the normally aspirated engine!

+2 For the two posts above, look at the Mitsubishi Evolution, only 2 models were offered in the first itterations and both models were virtually identical except one was lighter. Then after several itterations untill the Evolution 8, they came out with the MR Evolution and a Evolution 9 with MIVEC. I think the sources are BS.

Weight is killer and to add a V8 would be a bad idea considering the power necessary for the vehicle would only need at most a twin turbo 6 which is not only less weight but requires less frame rigidity than a v8 would.

I in no way disagree about the six cylinder comments, but it doesn't sound like one in the videos! I would be pleased with the six, but maybe it is larger displacement than we were originally lead to believe! Who would have believed a year ago that BMW would build a twin turbo, and also put a V-8 in the M3? Speculation is fun, especially with a brand new product such as this car.

The Evo is a MUCH cheaper and more widely available car. I would be EXTREMELY surprised if there is more than one model the first year, especially with its extremely low production numbers anticipated. I just don't see it happening at all! It would not be an appropriate introduction in my mind-it would dilute the car and confuse people from the start.

Its going to bring more horsepower than you are stating simply because there soon will be quite a few sports cars with 500 horsepower including such common cars as the Mustang! The new Vette(base will be 450+ hp and the SS/Blue Devel 600-700!)is going to smoke, so Nissan better bring the bacon. I am confident they are holding their cards close to the vest, and that we will not be disappointed when it is introduced at the next Tokyo Autoshow. They have not waited 5+years with such secrecy to take second fiddle. They are waiting so they can better size up the competition and trump it outright.

By the way, I was reading that the new M3 V-8 will be lighter than the previous generation M3 inline 6! I still think it will be a larger displacement V-6(4+Liter) or even a V-8(4.5L), since the extra displacement gives outstanding torque characteristics without peak or excessive boost, which makes for outstanding drivability and wider tunability. V-8's are more compact than the inline 6, and with all the exotic materials such as mag and aluminum alloys, I think it is a great possibility.
