GPS limited to 156 mph in US 111 in japan!

We know that the Nissan GT-R's ECU wizardry is impressive, but this little tidbit left us in awe. According to our friends over at the GTChannel, the GT-R's integrated computer limits the vehicle's speed in Japan to 111 mph (180 km/h), but once the GPS system detects that you've arrived at a domestic circuit, it removes the top speed limiter for all-out track assaults.

In the U.S., they've bumped up the electronically-limited top speed to 156 mph (250 km/h), but there's no integration with the GPS here in the States, meaning that anyone that wants to go faster on track has to have the ECU modifed. Nissan has made several overtures that the GT-R's ECU will be a tough nut to crack, but we're sure that enterprising tuners both here and abroad will be able to coax a few extra ponies out of the twin-turbo'd 3.8-liter mill and remove any electronic nannies that go with it.

that's pretty cool technology used in a pretty uncool way

i mean it sounds a bit silly to say that we'll need more than 156 in a street car, but this clearly is not just any street car, it was conceived in the mind of a generation that bows down to names like R34 and R33, it was born on the fiercest racetrack in the world

it will undoubtably be a phenominal vehicle, i would say that it will set the automotive tone for years to come, at least in this sector

But I've had a street car greater than 156 on a track here in the U.S.

I will definitely be aggressively having that bull**** canceled

My first post haha, but i would be doing the same.

No worries guys. The aftermarket will catch up very quickly on the new GT-Rs and their speed limiters will be one of first things to go with the ECU tunes. Every new tuner cars ECU is deemed uncrackable for a short period of time.

i'd agree with GTRnate, it's only a matter of time

the USA gt-r isnt limited. its limited at redline in 6th gear. thats it.

the gt-r in japan will be limited by gps to 112mph. and they have already made aftermarket parts to get rid of these gates. hks has the cheapest easiest solution sofar!

then you have the other parts from mines, amuse, and cobb tuning (btw cobb is american tuner with a jspec gt-r!).

ok, yah, i feel like i heard that too

Oh no, I cant go over 155...

That doesnt even mean much unless you're at the track.

160 is the highest I've been, its a cheap thrill at best. Certainly not worth doing IMO.
