Does anybody know

Exactly how many Skylines are in America. A rough figure would be good.
I've seen more and more US owners lately.Just wondering if Motorex have a bit of competition yet?....and if not,why has there only been one point of access into the US for the Skyline.

I think there's about a couple hundred currently. Might be more or less.

Also Motorex is no longer in business. There are other companies that claim that they can bring the car in legally but it has yet to be proven. Importing cars into the US is very difficult to do and takes alot of patience and money to accomplish. I'm hoping that someone will step up soon and pick up where Motorex left off.

Is it not possible to

register the car in say Canada and drive it back home to US as long as you re-register it every year?

The problem with that is you have to be a Canadian resident. Also Canada has a 15 year rule so you wouldn't be able to get anything past 1990.

there's an article in one of the Japanese car mags about a guy in the U.S. with an R32 GTR. From the bits I can understand (my Japanese reading skills are crap!) it appears Motorex actually do very little to the car itself....did notice that it has to have red reflectors stuck on the rear fenders (look awful IMO) and a high mount stop lamp fitted....apart from that, and several "compliance stickers", the car looked pretty much JDM stock to me...

I thought there had to be modifications made to the front bumper to make it compliant with the Federal safety regulations, also, wouldn't there have to be something done to the fuel system, as (particularly California) the emmisions laws over there are quite harsh.....

i would estimate about 200 gt-r's are here. and you'd better be happy with at least that:

currently, there is a hold on all arriving GT-Rs into the united states --similar to the recent one that has plagued new zealand: no more GT-Rs are allowed in whatsoever until customs decides otherwise. some cars are at ports of entry, and have been there for months. i recently visited RBMotoring and was told this.

MotorEx's site is still up and functional. so i don't know why that would be up if they were out of business. ???
