OS Giken 6 Speed Sequential

Anyone have any experience with this transmission?

I am thinking of buying one and am looking for some feedback.

the best next to Holinger but less $$$ , so i've heard

Crash Gordon 01-18-2005 01:59 PM

have you ever driven a race tranny??? I had one in my mustang and it was not very fun unless if you were wide open all the time. Engagement isnt smooth, they get a little hot, and they are loud as crap.

Paul2x 02-03-2005 08:51 AM

thats whats sweet about them...:p

Rb Motoring reccomends:
Clutch - Lots of power and AWD. The fuse in the driveline is the clutch. You have a lot of possibilities here. Our recent favorite clutch is the Nismo twin plate clutch - along with a Nismo Slave Cylinder. Has a very nice feel, plus its a sprung hub, for that extra give in the driveline. We have used HKS/Tilton twin and triple plate clutches. They are a non -sprung hub. The HKS/Tilton twins are fairly difficult to drive. Or as Sport Compact Car called one "the clutch from hell". The triple could not be recommended for a street car. It was extremely difficult to drive on the street. We are giving ATS Carbon/Carbon clutches a try. One R32 has a twin disk, and the R34 has a triple disk.

Transmission - In a R32/R33 making over 500hp to the rear wheels, 3rd gear has had some issues while drag racing. The synchros are also not all that durable. The internals of the R32/R33 are the same as the 300ZX twin turbo. Redline Shockproof Heavy Gear Oil. We have used it in a 10.7 drag car with a stock transmission and it seems to really help with transmission durability. OS Giken transmission internal upgrades seem to be good up to 700 hp.

I haven't used any of these clutchs.
I am just passing on info:

Ok so sequential isn't the way to go.... Is there a good 6 speed out there for a R32 application, that won't break the bank?

They have a few gear sets to chose from and ratios. the'll run you around 3,600 with out shipping.

U can also try and find a good used Nismo trany but it'll only hold up to about the same as the Giken but is more expensive.

Either way you look at it you going to spend alot when it comes to the trany. There is really no cheep gear set.

Im an aussie boy and know about ppg. they make good dog engagements and replaced sychros. also you could try trust dog engagement or OS giken 1-2-3 gearset replacement

SHANER32GTR 07-31-2006 03:19 PM

there is also the hks dog box i have one fitted on mine the only thing you need to do is change the clutch plates or plate as the hks box input shaft is slightly larger in diameter and its a lot quiter than most dog boxes or sequential boxes.

You can rebuilt your tranny with a OS Giken 5-Speed Close Gear Kit. This kit consists of the 1-3 close gear set, use of the normal 4th gear, and an OS Giken 5th gear.
The item is compatible with RB26DETT setups and is for serious RB26 tuners. The gearing is as follows: $2900.00

First Gear: 2.695 (OEM 3.214)

Second Gear: 1.703 (OEM 1.925)

Third Gear: 1.236 (OEM 1.302)

Fourth Gear : OEM 1.000

Fifth Gear : 0.826 (OEM 0.752)

or you can get a OS Giken 3-Speed Close Gear Kit with a Strengthened Main Shaft. $2400.00

The item is compatible with RB26DETT setups and is for serious RB26 tuners. The strengthened main shaft makes your transmission much more reliable since it can sometimes become the weakest link in your entire drivetrain.
The gearing is as follows:
First Gear: 2.695 (OEM 3.214)
Second Gear: 1.703 (OEM 1.925)
Third Gear: 1.236 (OEM 1.302)
(4th OEM 1.000) (5th OEM 0.752)

Or you can buy a new OS Giken 6-Speed Sequential Transmission for the RB26 and is known as the Standard Type OS-88. $14000.00

The OS-88 from OS Giken is said to be able to hold up to 1500hp. This is the transmission that high horsepower RB26 users need when trying to harness the unbelievable torque that this motor is capable of. The gears are the dog-type which are forged to give the highest quality available on the market. A shift indicator is also included with this set.

Gear ratios of this gear set are as follows:

-1st gear : 2.609

-2nd gear : 1.934

-3rd gear : 1.521

-4th gear : 1.210

-5th gear : 1.000

-6th gear : 0.852

or you can buy a Ikeya Formula Sequential Shifter. $1500.00

The Ikeya Formula Sequential Shifter turns the conventional H shift pattern used in many vehicles into a very simple forward and reverse shift pattern. Because of this, lap times can be improved just from the few milliseconds saved between each shift. The Ikeya Formula Sequential Shifter proves to be very useful for drifting as well and makes sure you are in the gear you want to be in when in really counts. Not only this but there is no longer a chance of miss shifting which is not only hard on the transmission but extremely harsh on the engine. This is Ikeya Formula`s original design; they wanted a shifter that would improve driving without taking away from the feeling of racing. They didn`t want a unit that shifted automatically where you just step on the gas and steer the vehicle. Their final product incorporates the use of the clutch pedal and is an extremely sturdy sequential shifter. Ikeya Formula has designed this so that it can be used on stock transmissions and includes everything needed for install.

or you can buy a Nissan GETRAG Transmission for the Skyline GT-R. $ 5500.00
This transmission comes stock on the BNR34 Skyline GT-R in the form of a 6-speed close ratio and is built by the largest independent manufacturer of transmissions in the world, GETRAG. GETRAG also makes the stock transmissions for the JZA80 Twin Turbo Supra which have been seen making crazy amounts of power with no transmission failure. This is one of the STRONGEST stock transmission available on the market and can take a great deal of abuse!! If you plan on using the NUR RB26DETT engine in the future, the GETRAG is the ideal choice due to the fact that the transmission mates to this engine with no oil pan compatibility issues. It is also possible to custom fit the BNR34 GETRAG into your BNR32 or BCNR33 to have a nearly indestructible gearbox in your car. The following values are the gear ratios for the GETRAG transmission.

1st Gear Ratio 3.83:1

2nd Gear Ratio 2.36:1

3rd Gear Ratio 1.69:1

4th Gear Ratio 1.31:1

5th Gear Ratio 1:1

6th Gear Ratio 0.79:1

All depends on how much you want to spend$$$$$

chokonen888 05-20-2009 07:19 AM

OS88 is much smoother and precise than the Hollinger. Can be used on a street car whereas the Hollinger, not so much.

I have one for sale on eBay right now: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=180357397277
