Help. Engine oil temp. question
 

Hello,

A friend of mine was lapping Sebring and after four or five laps the engine oil temp. reached 270F. The car has less than 700 miles and is still using the factory-filled motor oil.

Is the normal? Is there any way of preventing this? Your help is appreciated. Thanks.

A little too early to hit the track with only 700 miles isn't it?

The oil getting to 270 shouldn't be a huge problem...but a way to help cool the temps down a bit (at least when I track my Subaru) is to change the oil to a 5w-50 (for track days) and add an additive that is heavy in Zinc to help the oil adhere to the metal.

Slightly over fill the oil for track days as well...this way during high G turns you don't starve your motor.

Also be sure to change your oil after every track day.
